Just a a suggestion : Wouldnt it be great if there was a group called Openstudy Home to which evry new user is added defaultly?? It seems odd that when we click 'home' above we are lead to openstudy feedback . Perhaps it would only contain some of the rules and explain the format of OS; how to post in a particular section, etc. F Share ur views
From the time i joined here(abt 2 years now) it seemed to me openstudy lacked a "home" group The Users were logged into mathematics group automatically then. This may seems awkward for a person who came to OS to study literature or any other subject.
the home group may also be used to welcome new users by posting qns like "WELCOME ARAVINDG TO OPENSTUDY!!"
Well the only thing i would think that happens, is that the users would kind of destroy it somehow, not in so much of a bad way. but like people can be just putting crap up this and that, the jokes could be really inappropriate..kind of. and by looking at the amount of people that join the site everyday, its a lot of questions that would be posted heh.
im just saying, im blabbing i just woke up so a little in a tizz. heh
thts a good point anyway @karatechopper . hw abt a specific limit to the no of qns posted in the Home group in a given time ??
Nah, that would cause more problems. If like say 30 new people come on, then 15 of them are welcomed, the other 15 would probably get mad and make a tantrum..you know what i mean? kinda..?
hmm...abt the "welcome thing " that was an add on suggestion
wat do u say then?
Heh never saw that, lol. Um. well i don't think it would be taken in as one, because to much clutter.
wt do u say abt the idea of a home group?
if u hav further arguments on clutter , hw abt restricting the users who can post in home group should have smartscore greater than equal to 80 ?? That would ensure appropriate content i guess like thoughts , information , tips etc
wat i am trying to say that we need a home group it doesnt matter evn if there is no facility to post qns maybe ...the things i suggested after that were all " add ons "
Hah i think that too, but u know im just blabbering im really tired after waking up, maybe someone who is awake can really talk with u on this hah
lets see wat the mods hav to say :) thx for sharing ur ideas
Hahah thats what i was about to say, that let the mods do what they think and say:) most welcome
You certainly raised a valid point there regarding new users automatically being put onto the Mathematics Group page. I think a simple Home page (with no question/answer facility) might be a good idea. Maybe this page should contain helpful hints about how to use the site. It could even contain information about things like: - what is an administrator and what are they responsible for and how are they identified - what is a moderator and what are they responsible for and how are they identified - what is a global intern and what are they responsible for and how are they identified - etc
@asnaseer EXACTLY !!! that was what i was speaking about !!
aravindG is very very right.... it can also be named as miscellaneous
Certainly if this page were to exist it would not be a good idea to allow posts from just anybody (if it should contain posts at all). As karate said the page would be awash with nonsense and inappropriate posts if that were where all new users were directed. That said, an introductory page of some kind is definitely in order. Perhaps it would only contain some of the rules and explain the format of OS; how to post in a particular section, etc. For example many people come here asking where they can get personal tutoring on such-and-such, and that page could explain that that is not the purpose of the site.
If we did allow all new users to ask questions, I certainly wouldn't want to moderate that group though....
yep then a home group without facility to post qns seems a good idea !!
i jst modified the qn to come to the point
the newbies would surely benefit frm such a home group
I agree with TuringTest. Posts would be no bueno. But a welcoming page of some type might be good. Or, just the ambassadors should be doable once we get the program up, quite honestly
yep all are favouring a home page :) i am happy to hear that
lol srry aravind i told i couldn't think:) so thts what u meant!! well then im with ya on this
np :)
A home page or a welcome page is an intriguing idea. Perhaps beefing up the little blue help boxes - like when the hatchlings get curious and hover their mouse over a moderator it explains what mods are, or when they hover over specific things on the first profile page they click it shows explanations for what SmartScore is, things like that...
exactly !!
