what is protien?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a protein is a polymer(polypeptide) made out of monomers(amino acids)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Protein is a polymer that is made up of long chains of amino acids. There are 22 different types of amino acids, and the body will be requiring all of these. Amino acids are chemical compounds that contain carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, and oxygen, which are all combined together to form these various types of proteins that the body will require. Proteins will come from the food that we consume. Our food is broken down in our digestion, then into individual amino acids. These amino acids will then be absorbed and reform in order to create the new proteins that our body is requiring. Protein is required for the growth, repair, and the maintenance of all cells. It is also a major component of all of our muscles, tissues, and organs, which is vital for the many different processes that occur in the body. This will be things such as the metabolism, digestion, and the transportation of nutrients and oxygen in the blood. Hope that helps! n_n
