Two equal mass balls (one red and the other blue) are dropped from the same height and rebound off the floor. The red ball rebounds to a higher position than the blue ball. Neglect air resistance. Which, if any, of the following statements is/are true?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

During the collision with the floor, both balls transfer the same amount of momentum to the floor. Except for the instant they are in contact with the floor, both balls are in free fall. If air resistance is NOT ignored, then the sum of the kinetic and potential energies of the ball decreases as the ball falls. Once they come to a stop in the air after bouncing off the floor, the red ball has a greater amount of gravitational potential energy. During the entire process, some mechanical energy is converted into thermal energy.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

last one is true!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the second last one also true :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep. I said false false true true true and got it wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

er i mean i said true false true true true

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait.. first one is also true

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait there are only 4 options.. and you gave five answers.. !

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sorry there are 5 different options but they are poorly spaced out

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hope thats better

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea yea.. sorry.. i feel except for the air resistance thing, all others are true!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

infact.. all are true? :O

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But the balls arent in free fall after the bounce

OpenStudy (anonymous):

they are in free fall BEFORE contact!!.. so its a true

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know that...but doesnt the question also apply for after the bounce? making it not in free fall after?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i doubt.. cause.. after rebound.. it reaches some height and again experience free fall :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1true 2 true 3 true 4 false 5 true

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Why would 4 be false? the red ball is higher...so greater PE...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why is 4 false sir??.. red ball is higher.. so greater PE

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OMG.. YOU are reading my mind!!!!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

PE is inversily proportional to distance

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ramkrishna.. what crap? :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not really... PE = mgh

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so i guess all true then?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea i think so.. all true! ..sorry was watching pirates of carribean :D for te nth time!
