How would I convert y = sinx+cosx into the y=Asin(x+c) form?

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

using angle sum identity Asin(x+c) = Asinxcosc + Acosxsinc this equals sinx + cosx only if: Acosc = 1 Asinc = 1 --> sinc = cosc = 1/A c = pi/4 A = sqrt2

thanks for the useful explanation and the very helpful link cinar! I'm going to review it to make sure I understand it
