why are the values for my "medals for answers" in the problem solving category less than those in the mathematics group? how are these two counted?

The value of medals depends on who's giving them to you and their scores. The higher SmartScore people are in math and the other subjects are a little more uh, not frequented as much, I guess.

OpenStudy (shadowfiend):

Medals for answers are medals you received in questions other than your own, medals for asking those you received in your own questions. Medals received in a group are an aggregate of both.
