When in time does history begin?

Late 1965, which is the earliest date I can personally remember things happening. I have heard assertions by other people of things happening before that date, but this is unverifiable supposition.

Many people consider history to begin at the point at which prehistory ends. Prehistory being the time before written records of part of the collective memory of homo sapiens. As far as we know, there are coherent descriptions of "history" in writing as early as c. 5,000 B.C.
