a fund drive announces that it has raised $8,829, which is 20% of its goal. How much more must be raised?
If 8829 is 20% of the goal, 20% = .2 Say the goal is x. Then... .2x = 8829. Can you find x?
no, i dont know how to do this and its my test
You don't know how to solve an equation for x? You want to get x on it's own. To do that you do the opposite of what is done to x. (If there is any addition done to x you would subtract. Any subtraction you would add. Any multiplication you divide, any division you multiply) And whatever you do to one side you do to the other. So if you had 8x+1 = 17 you would first subtract 1 so you have 8x = 16 then divide by 8 so you have x=2. So now you try again with your equation. What do you do / what do you get?
@Leslie_Leann If you have .2x = 8829 You divide both sides by .2 So What is 8829/.2?
44,145?
yep. So the goal is 44,145 :)
i got the answer wrong
it isn't 44,145?
no it said i got it incorrect
oh, i know why. the question is how much MORE needs to be raised. So you have to subtract 8,829 from 44,145. 44145-8829 = ?
