What is the range of the function y = -x2 + 1? y ≤ -1 y ≥ -1 y ≤ 1 y ≥ 1 and why

do you know which way this parabola opens?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y ≤ 1 becouse x2 is always positive. So - x2 will be always negative. Basicly you are substracting numbers from 1. This means that the maximum value will be when you substract nothing, x2 =0 and for anything else will be less than that
