What is the vertex of the graph of y = –|3x – 12|+ 5?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

might be easier to see if you wrote it as \[y=3|x-4|+5\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Vertex is (4,5)....obvious from question...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well actually i was wrong, it should be \[y=-3|x-4|+5\] then you read off the answer since it is of the form \[y=a|x-h|+k\] which has vertex \((h,k)\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you graph it you will see the vertex, it it the the point where the absolute value changes direction http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=y%3D-3abs%28x-4%29%2B5
