I would go for the option: "Plant trees along canals and roadways on their property to filter runoff and prevent soil erosion."

Soil erosion are mainly caused by absence of trees, the soil can't hold it self.

So, the places where trees are all cut has much more risk to have these kind of problem, tree's roots hold soil in place. You are welcome :)
