why do people become a fan, what does it do?

Fanning people will let you know when they come online and are online but other than that it is just a way that you show your appreciate to people if you like them or their help enough.

Well, OpenStudy is an online study group, and with fans, you can have your own little "personal" study group.

Well it doesn't really do anything for studies, in all honesty. Besides maybe make an easy list of people to communicate with.
