As a reader, what do you think is the most important element to a work of fiction?

Deep thematic development. If you choose a theme, you better stick with it and make something out of it. Otherwise when I read your work I'll forget what I'm supposed to be getting out of it.

I agre with hereweg0, descriptive writing is important mostly because with fiction there is no real way for the reader to picture something not real that your trying to describe to them. At least with the way you want them to envision it.
