The area of a patio is 72 square feet. The length of the patio is 1 foot longer than the width. What is the width of the patio?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you think of factors (numbers that when multiplied=72) The only two numbers that are 1 apart, are 9 & 8. The length is 1 foot longer, so that's the 9. And the width is the 8.

The area of a swimming pool is 200 square feet. The length of the pool is 10 feet longer than the width. What is the length of the swimming pool?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

K so we have to think of factors (numbers when multiplied will=200), that are 10 apart. The only that match this are 20*10. Now it says the length is the bigger one by 10,so the length=20, and the width =10
