In lecture 8, the professor shows a demonstration where two parallel plates with a separation d. Then he charged up they plates with a 1500 V source. He then disconnects the power supply. Then he increases the separation of the plates by a factor of seven and we see that the voltage goes up by a factor of seven. What application does this have in the real world since you will never buy a capacitor off the self that is fully charged by some voltage (as far as I know)?
