What does it mean when scientists say that living organisms share a universal genetic code?

Each organism uses DNA to encode proteins: this means that you can clone DNA and move it from one organism to another. In other words, you can put a human gene into bacteria and get the bacteria to make the protein from that human gene. This is because the amino acids encoded by each triplet are the same whether for a bacterial gene or a human one.
