Improper integrals: \[\int\limits_{-1}^{1}x ^{-2/3}dx\]

My book says that I divide up the problems into: \[\int\limits\limits_{-1}^{0}x ^{-2/3}dx + \int\limits\limits_{0}^{1}x ^{-2/3}dx \] and when I take the integral and limit of one of them I should get: \[3x ^{1/3} +3\] but I have no idea where the +3 comes from
