what do you think about 'empowerment'?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

"Empowerment" of a people or a cause can be defined as any promotion that assists in the gaining of power or momentum for the specific group of people or the cause. In the case of social and civil rights, empowerment may take the form of support groups, protests or endorsements. My personal opinion on empowerment? Depending on the cause, it's usually a good thing. Although you don't usually have the word "empowerment" associated with negative causes (i.e., Joseph Kony), it can still be applied according to the definition. In the West, I'd say empowerment is a good thing. It shows that some altruistic people still exist who are willing to hold up people who are oppressed.
