By shifting decimals :)
Scientists have developed a shorter method to express very large numbers. This method is called scientific notation
If you have to find the scientific notation of 500, for example, make a table. \(\begin{array}{l|r} 500 & 1 \\ \hline 50.0&10 \\ \hline 5.00& 100 \end{array}\) If you notice, you multiply all the rows and you get 500.
When you have reached to a point like \(5.00 \times 100\), then just express the right one in exponent with base 10. 100 = 10^2

You finish with \(5.00 \times 10^2\)
