A construction company orders 2900 new light bulbs for a new office building. If the probability of a light bulb being defective is 1.9%, predict how many of the light bulbs are likely to be defective. Round your answer to the nearest whole number. A. 55 light bulbs B. 69 light bulbs C. 46 light bulbs D. 551 light bulbs

OpenStudy (jackellyn):

1.9 2900 x ---- = ? 100

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I guess thats right

OpenStudy (jackellyn):

If 1.9% of the 2900 light bulbs might be defective then you find 1.9% of 2900 which is what I wrote above.

ok thank you

OpenStudy (jackellyn):

np :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

which answer would that be?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont have my calculator

OpenStudy (jackellyn):

use google. first 1.9/100 and multiply that by 2900.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok got it.. thanks!

OpenStudy (phi):

you could do this one in your head: 2900/100 *1.2 is 29*1.9 but 1.9 is close to 2, so the answer should be a bit under 29*2= 58 55 looks like a good bet.

thanks!
