A student cuts her hand during her gym class. The next day the cut is red and inflamed. What is the likely cause?

I don't know the exact molecule causing it. From an immunology point of view, when bacteria/virus enters the body. It is phagocyted by an antigen presenting molecule such as a macrophage. Then the macrophage is will recruit t helper cell for example in the adaptive immune system. And helper t cell recruits specific B or T antibodies to the the virus or bacteria to initiate an inflammtion process. Off course it depends on what kind of bacteria and virus she got from the wound and there are different pathways. But I think the general inflammtion process in medicine causes redness and swollen.
