Which characteristic of living things is important to the survival of a group of animals rather than an individual member of this group? Why?

These could be considered "one" essential characteristic : " Grow/develop and adapt to evolution." If a group / species is capable of adaptation, it will have a higher chance of survival if a drastic event that changes their environment occurs. Yet, if this only applied to an individual, then the entire group would not benefit because they would be unable to evolve if it could not apply to the entire species when only one survives, leaving an endangered species. :)
