Please simplify.. 3^7 over 3^5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You would have.. 3^7 --- 3^5 This simplifies to 3^2 because you subtract the exponents and it leaves one on the bottom. 3^2=9 Hope this helps! :)

thank you very much! :)

Think of it like this: 3 x 3 x 3 x 3 x 3 x 3 x 3 --------------------- 3 x 3 x 3 x 3 x 3 You can cross out the first five 3's on the top and bottom. That leaves you with 3 x 3, or 9. The answer is 9. :)

\[\frac{\cancel{3\times3\times3\times3\times3}\times3\times3}{\cancel{3\times3\times3\times3\times3}}\]
