@JBrightman3 Which can not be written as an equivalent improper fraction? 14 -- 4 ------------ 2 2-- 4 ------------ 1 -- 6 ------------ 9 -- 8 (B right?!?!)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I would say C because by definition, an improper fraction is a fraction where the numerator is greater than the denominator and 1/6 has a higher denominator with no mixed numbers.

The second option can be written as an improper fraction by multiplying 2 by 4, and adding 2. 2 x 4 = 8 8 + 2 = 10 So the second option is 10 / 4. The only option that is a proper fraction is C. 1 / 6.

A, B, And D are all improper fractions, but it is asking for a proper fraction. The answer is C. 1/6. :)
