OpenStudy (osuxbucks15):

In parallelogram DEFG, DH = x + 1, HF = 3y, GH = 3x – 4, and HE = 5y + 1. Find the values of x and y. The diagram is not to scale.

OpenStudy (osuxbucks15):

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

Use the fact that the diagonals of a parallelogram bisect each other to form two equations in x and y. Then solve these to find x and y.

OpenStudy (osuxbucks15):

thanks

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

yw :)

OpenStudy (king):

see acoording to the fact that diagonals bisect each other in a parallelogram, DH=HF x+1=3y now similarly give me the other equation from GH=HE

OpenStudy (king):

u der?

OpenStudy (king):

ok so similarly, 3x-4=5y+1 so, 3x=5y+5 from the first equation x=3y-1 therefore substituting in second equation u get, 9y-3=5y+5 4y=8 y=2 substitute y in any equation to get x, x=3y-1 =6-1 x=5

OpenStudy (king):

understood?

OpenStudy (king):

@OSUxBucks15 got it?

OpenStudy (osuxbucks15):

yes

OpenStudy (king):

so u are gonna close the question nw rite?

OpenStudy (osuxbucks15):

yes
