Solve this matrix equation Please help me learn this, I can only find tutorials on solving linear equations

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I can't find any tutorials because they're all on linear equations... or is that related with these equations?

OpenStudy (beginnersmind):

Do you know how to add matrices or multiply them by a number?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm the one who asked the question by the way, and yes I know

OpenStudy (beginnersmind):

ok. You can just treat it as an algebraic equation an isolate M on one side.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So I multiply every number in the first matrix 5 1 -8 by 4?

OpenStudy (beginnersmind):

It's an equation. You need to multiply both sides by 4.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh no, I subtract 5 1 -8 by the other matrix -2 -1 3, THEN I multiply?

OpenStudy (beginnersmind):

Both work. Subtracting is a little cleaner.

OpenStudy (beginnersmind):

I mean subtracting first, then multiplying, sorry.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OH SWEET! I got it right! It's 28 8 -44 :D

OpenStudy (beginnersmind):

Cool. :) That's what I got too.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you :D

OpenStudy (beginnersmind):

no problem
