A parking lot is to be formed by fencing in a rectangular plot of land except for an entrance 12 m wide along one of the sides. Find the dimensions of the lot of the greatest area if 300 m of fencing is to be used.

bearing in mind a square has the most area for least perimiter, you want to make the lot a square. you have 300m of fence but a 12m gap so the perimiter is 312m. take 312/4 to find one side of the square and then square it to find the area
