What is the difference between an absorption and emission spectrum?

Absorption spectrum is the spectrum formed by electromagnetic radiation that has passed through a medium in which radiation of certain frequencies is absorbed. Emission spectrum is the spectrum formed by electromagnetic radiations emitted by a given source, characteristic of the source and the type of excitation inducing the radiations. Both of them are nouns.
