Uh, not quite SmoothMath. :P Moderators are selected for being high ranking, reputable members of the community. There's no way to become one except to be appointed directly.

Lol LG I don't think it works quite like that xD there is no vote from the people. It's not a democracy. Which is almost unfortunate. haha
More like Supreme Court nominations. No democracy, and it's for life (until they decide to hang up the robe). But as @farmdawgnation mentioned, we take all those factors into consideration for our choices.
presidential appointees arent democratic are they? they're just people appointed by the president(s) and no vote from people? idk...not good with politics
