Last year, there were 120 seniors in Limon High School. This year there are 145. What is the percent of increase? Round to the nearest percent. Answer 83% 17% 21% 79%

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what was the actual increase (as a number)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i.e. what is \(145-120\) ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

25

OpenStudy (anonymous):

17%

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok one more step take the fraction \[\frac{25}{120}\] (notice you divide by the original number here ) then either reduce or what is easier is to use a calculator and get \[25\div 120 = .2083\] move the decimal two places to the left and get \(20.83\%\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you have to round, so make it \(21\%\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

17% is not the right answer btw you have to compare the increase (or decease) to the ORIGINAL amount

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the answer is 21%?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes for sure use a calculator for the division, move the decimal point in your head
