OpenStudy (pfenn1):

Can you factor the top and bottom expressions? Are you missing an x in that top expression?

OpenStudy (pfenn1):

Or is it \[x^2-10+9=x^2-1\]?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im supposed to simplify it.

OpenStudy (pfenn1):

It makes a difference because \[x^2-10+9=x^2-1 = (x-1)(x+1)\]but \[x^2-10x+9=(x-1)(x-9)\] Which one is the correct expression?

OpenStudy (pfenn1):

What are the factors for \[x^2+2x-3=?\]

OpenStudy (pfenn1):

Do you know how to factor? For the expression in the denominator we know\[x^2+2x-3=(x+a)(x+b)\]where a and b are integers that must solve\[a+b=2 \text{ and } ab=-3\]
