Release Notes - July 3, 2012 Flight of the Bumbleandroids
Greetings folk rockers! Here's a fresh batch of juicy juice for you all to sink your teeth into: Notes: - Fix issues with special characters in verification and unsubscribe link urls. - Verbiage changes: Best Answer is now Best Response. Other changes were made in line with this. - Some fixes for weird Android tablets. - Fix errors caused by invite links shared by guests. - Fix display issues with the blue group dropdown and long group names. - Fix issues with links in DMs. - Wait until the group chooser hides to show that you are now a fan of the user who invited you (if you created an account from an invite). - Username tweaks. - There is now a 21 character limit on usernames. - This won't affect existing users. - We made some display tweaks to guarantee these usernames display properly. - Fix a bug that could cause you to get a verification lockout screen for a different account that you own. - Fix issues that caused online users to appear in the wrong order in the right pane. - Fix issues with chat strobing. - Fix issues where timestamps wouldn't update when they were supposed to. - Fix some issues with word wrapping on the invite page. - The next steps list for new users now updates in all tabs at the same time. - Fix some indentation in the code that @farmdawgnation screwed up. ಠ_ಠ On a final note, @darthsid is no longer working with us. He contributed greatly to the site and there's no way we would have gotten to where we are today without his hard work coming up with designs, ensuring the top quality experience for our users, and putting the lame pun coon to shame. He's moved on to bigger and better things, and we'll miss him. With this release we moved him and Jon Birdsong into a new section on the About Us page, "Distinguished Alumni", to recognize the significant contributions they made to OpenStudy. If we screwed anything up (never happened before), let us know!
Oh no. Sid is no more :'(
Also, Facebook invites were having some problems due to this site not having a valid SSL certificate. Those problems should be resolved so FB invites should work for certain again. Feel free to spam yr friends with another round (kidding).
lol, 21 char limit ;)
Why does Sid still have the moderator status?
What does this mean ---> "- Wait until the group chooser hides to show that you are now a fan of the user who invited you (if you created an account from an invite)." lol "that farmdawgnation screwed up" xD D: DarthSid left?! :'( But he was my pun buddy :q
When you invite someone and they sign up, you become fans of each other. Once they've signed up, they still have to choose a subject. We were showing the “so-and-so is now your fan” popup while the chooser was up, when it couldn't be seen. We now wait for the subject chooser to go away.
Can you un-fan them? I try to minimize how many people I fan haha I have 48 fans and 20 of them *sniff* excuse me 19 of them are mods.
You can unfan anyone you want.
Just if someone accepts your invite to the site, you are automatically their fan without any additional effort.
Lol so you assume we like people we invite? Fair enough.
Why so?
"- Fix some indentation in the code that @farmdawgnation screwed up. ಠ_ಠ " LOL
I linked this site through that invitation link on Yahoo! Answers once, so that means that I'd be fanning random people.
These are only invitations through the links provided in the invite page. If you just link to OpenStudy none of that will happen.
The duck doesn't like indentation from the sound of it, he reads everything like a scroll? :-3
However, yes, if you want points from the invite, you will have to deal with the mutual fanning that comes from it.
Whoa wait, you lose points if you un-fan them??
What is chat strobing?
You get points for fanning, which you lose if you unfan. You also get points for the accepted invite, which you do not lose if you unfan.
ew
@shadowfieennnddd I went to the invite page and then gave the link.
Chat strobing is the effect that happens when someone in chat posts a message.
In the previous release there was a bug where the username of the person who chatted didn't show up. We fixed that.
Oh, so does it display the names now?
Okay
Another thing I want to point out. When I press the left or right buttons for scrolling through the chats of different groups, it scrolls VERY VERY slow.
That's your computer. Oh lol now I see names...way to go me.
You might want to include this for the next release @Mr.Feury @lightfiend @farmduckynation
ohhh me gee...you like, spelled all their names wrong. How rude. c;
Btw, Parth & others, what that score calculation display bug or whatever you want to call it fixed? I can't find the old topic, and no way I'm looking though the past few days of places Parth posted lol
@ParthKohli If you want to have us investigate that then open a new post in OpenStudy Feedback. We can see if, perhaps, there are performance issues on your end.
@agentx5 Positions in the online list weren't being updated when people's scores changed. We fixed that.
Ah k ty
Yeah, like...I'm getting so much higher on the list :3
Great work as always! I love how this website is always updating, changing, tweaking, and making things better for their users!
We do what we can :)
@mattfeury @shadowfiend and all of the open study team. Thanks again :D
wow dpflan was an intern...who knew...anyway good one for doing a lot of things at once..congrats :D but i do have to ask..why "flight of the bumbleandroids?"
Might I know what motivated the verbiage change from "Answer" to "Response"? I assume it's that the heavier weight on usage of "Answer" detracts from all the other responses?
@badreferences i think it was derived from here http://openstudy.com/study#/updates/4ff14c29e4b03c0c488a3189
No, Darthsid is gone?! Can this be true? Sniff. Censoring swear words will never be the same.
In interns, why there is no name for Laura? -Just wondering.
Laura's internship expired awhile back. She's on to bigger and better things these days.
So Daniel and Min are still in your team?
Indeed they are.
I see. Cool.
was dpflan sir an intern ?
Is, not was.
is he still a global intern sir ...this means he is not a mod right ?
No. Global Interns are different... hehe The admin interns work for OpenStudy for example - @Laura* , @dpfl Global Interns are just explained about marketing and stuff so they could go ahead and use those tips.
oh k thanks a lot why did u only write dpfl and not completed that
We are not allowed to tag admins.
oh is that so i usually tagged them ..is that mentioned any where
Dan is not a global intern, he's an actual intern. An unfortunate coincidence of naming, but Dan actually works with us in the office to build OpenStudy, so yes, he is an admin on the site. We prefer you not tag admins on OpenStudy Feedback posts especially because we read them anyway and we're busy.
ok sir so can we tag them in other groups if we especially need their help
You may, though we are busy. At least in my case, I rarely get a chance to help on tagged questions unless they're specific knowledge-related questions and I have the answer handy. I rarely help questions that translate into “can you spend some time searching for this on Google for me”.
thanks a lot ! :) sir
