In both the iron sulfide hypothesis and the lipid membrane hypothesis, small, enclosed spaces are suggested as the precursors of the first cells. What role does having a small, enclosed space play in both these hypotheses?

Hey @swagdaddy91 I'm more of a math person. Actually I don't know any biology. @Blues or @TranceNova and there might be others, but I know these guys have been big contributors to this group.
@blues
Alrighty, well lets start from the start - what do you know about the iron sulfide hypothesis and the lipid membrane hypothesis? -Is there a particular textbook that you use (this would also help me direct you to the correct answer)? Also the key to this answer is - why do cells now need compartments? This should lend some light as to why cells then needed compartments. :)
