who can help me check this paragraph is my introduction to an essay, i need help to make sure it makes sence... I would really appreciate some help :)

Indentured servants were introduced into the new colonies in Jamestown, Virginia around (insert time period). Slavery was a controversial line dividing the country between North against South, abolition versus selfishness, and slavery versus freedom. Until 1865 when Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation, freeing slaves, eventually leading to the Thirteen Amendment. This however, was not without shortcomings and produced controversy and fighting that would eventually cause the civil war. Sadly, the moral opposition brought death to the nation, but at the same time produced a new era of freedom, new opportunities, equality, and one man who would become one of the best United States Presidents, Abraham Lincoln.
