Decide whether you would use the graphing, substitution, or elimination method to solve the following system of equations. Explain, in complete sentences, why you chose that method. Solve the following system of equations and show all of your work. 2x + 5y = −3 −15x − 5y = −10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

jus add them to eliminate y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

we can do this coz coefficients of y have same vlaue and different signs

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well telltoamit is right. when u see equal coefficients, it would be easiest to solve by elimination. In tougher problems, substitution works. graphs are least recommended but very good for understanding the concept of solutions and make u very comfortable with them.

Thanks.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But can you show me how to eliminate y?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

when u add, u ll get: 2x + (−15x) + 5y + (− 5y) = −3 + (−10)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So then i just combined like terms?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-13x=-13 x=1 Is that correct?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yepp

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks
