put x and the number of dimes, then since the total is 43 you have $43-x$ nickles
the total amount of money is they $.10x+.05(43-x)=3.60$ solve for $x$
easier to work with out the decimal (i.e. with pennies instead of dollars, so write 
$$10x+5(43-x)=360$$
