The figure below shows two similar pictures that Jeremy wants to frame. Jeremy has five strips of unfinished molding that she wants to use to frame the two pictures. Each strip is 36 inches long. Assuming there is no wastage or overlap of molding, what is the minimum length of molding, in inches, Jeremy still requires to frame both the pictures? Show your work and explain your reasoning in complete sentences

OpenStudy (anonymous):

figure a is 58.5 inches by 72. and figure b is 16 by 13 and both are rectangles

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well that was wrong he has \(5\times 36=180\) inches

OpenStudy (anonymous):

perimeter of first rectangle is \(2\times 58.5+2\times 72=261\) and for the other \[2\times 16+2\times 13=58\] inches

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i am not sure what you mean

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i messed up

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is the problem above correct?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Im pretty sure its 113

OpenStudy (anonymous):

looks like you have 180 inches and need 261+58 = 319 inches total, so are short by 319 - 180 = 139 inches am i missing something?
