If f(x)=x^2 −1 and g(x)=2x+1, find: a) f(g(x)) and b) gof(x)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the last question b) asks what g*f(x) is.

sam (.sam.):

its just substituting, f(g(x)) , you know that g(x)=2x+1, f(2x+1) ,then f(x)=x^2 −1 , substituting, (2x+1)^2-1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how about g*f(x)? does that mean we multiply (2x+1)^2-1 by f(x)?

sam (.sam.):

a bit different gf(x) g(x^2 −1 ) 2(x^2 −1 )+1

got it. thank you for your help. :)
