In one field, a farmer finds crop circle with a diameter of 110 feet. How many square feet does the crop circle cover? use 3.14 for pi. A. 172.7 B. 345.4 C. 9,498.5 D. 37,994

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well we need to find the area here, since it asks for square feet. The formula for Area is \[\pi r ^{2} \] In this case, you will need cut to diameter down by half, because it is twice the radius, also in this case replace pi with 3.14. Think ya can do it?

I'll try, thanks lifesaver.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You're welcome. Let me know what you get though.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

172.7 ft2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That doesn't sound right, make sure that 110/2 is 55, then don't forget, 55 is the radius and Area calls for the radius to be squared. Thus you multiply 55*55 then again multiply by 3.14. We also can't forget PEMDAS (Parenthesis, Exponents, Multiply|Divide, Add|Subtract) Our order of operations.

Okay, I'll try again.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

9,498.5ft2!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Correct! :)
