(x+4)(x+2)

FOIL. Ever heard of it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can you help me with this problem

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Here's another way to think of the problem. \[(x + 4)(x + 2) \rightarrow x(x + 2) + 4(x + 2) \rightarrow?\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yep, I have to teach you about FOIL first. It stands for FIRST INSIDE OUTSIDE LAST. It means that you multiply those numbers and variables in the FOIL order. that means x*x for F or First x*x = x O is outside, which is x and 2. x*2= 2x so far we have x+2x. Next comes I or inside, which is 4 and x. x*4=4x. and L is last, 4*2=8 So it looks something like this when you put it all together: x+2x+4x+8. Make sense?
