OpenStudy (umulas):

Which statement describes the translation of y= –5(x2 + 2) – 3 from standard position?

OpenStudy (umulas):

The answers i got were Moved up and to the right. Moved up and to the left. Moved down and to the left. Moved down and to the right. and i can't find any examples on my book so i'm a bit confused on this :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Are you sure the original problem is not -5(x+2)^2-3 ?

OpenStudy (umulas):

I got it in my textbook y= –5(x2 + 2) – 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OK, just checking.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is that x2 supposed to be \[x^2\] instead?

OpenStudy (umulas):

yes x^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oks, then it moves down, it expands away from the y-axis and it changes concavity(so its pointing down instead of pointing up. Sterna asked a good question, check the book again.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Only linear terms move quadratic sideways.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For the function you've given, I don't see the correct choice listed

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If the function were y=-5(x+2)^2-3, then the correct answer would be left and down.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sterna is right on.
