I have never been good at this! Solve for x. -6x + 11 -9x + 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i just need some guidance on how to get to the answer and so i can learn it

OpenStudy (matheducatormcg):

i always like to start off by isolating my variables to one side and the constants to the other side. A good trick to to determine the larger value with the variable and isolate variables to that side. -6x is bigger than -9x, so I move the -9x to the other side with -6x.

OpenStudy (matheducatormcg):

then move the constants(numbers with no variables) to the other side and divide.

OpenStudy (matheducatormcg):

So, add 9x to both sides and subtract 11 from both sides. only thing left is division.

OpenStudy (matheducatormcg):

gotta bolt. hope that helped.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Maybe i did something wrong because i got 1.125 haha

OpenStudy (matheducatormcg):

\[-6x+11=-9x+2\] after you add 9x to both sides you get \[3x+11=2\] now subtract 11 from both sides to get \[3x=-9\]

OpenStudy (matheducatormcg):

now divide. did that help?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haa yeah! i did it wrong haha i did it all weird! thanks! :)

life and wife are calling. I'm out.
