OMG I cant figure these stuff out For all y there exists an x such that x is less than or equal to y

OpenStudy (kinggeorge):

What do you think and why?

OpenStudy (swissgirl):

well its true but i wld think its false

OpenStudy (mertsj):

I'm thinking of a number. Can you think of a number less than my number?

OpenStudy (swissgirl):

ya cuz its all real numbers

OpenStudy (mertsj):

My number is x. What is a number less than my number?

OpenStudy (swissgirl):

its y

OpenStudy (kinggeorge):

It doesn't even have to less than his number. It has to be less than OR equal to his number.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

How about x-1?

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Wouldn't that be less than x? And we could call it y if we wanted to.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Or how about x-0? That would be equal to x. We could call it y if we wanted to.

OpenStudy (swissgirl):

arrrggghhh think i am gonnna take a break for the day lol

OpenStudy (swissgirl):

I have one question though y is this false There exists an x that for all y x is less than or equal to y

OpenStudy (kinggeorge):

That has to do with the order. It's saying that there is some number \(x\) such that \(x\) is less than or equal to \(every\) \(single\) y in existence.

OpenStudy (kinggeorge):

It's false, because you can choose any \(x\), and I'll simply choose \(y=x+1\). Since this exists, the statement is false.

OpenStudy (swissgirl):

give me a sec i gotta process that

OpenStudy (swissgirl):

okk gotcha thanks King for having patience with me

OpenStudy (swissgirl):

ohhh now everything is really clear. THANNKKKSSSS

OpenStudy (kinggeorge):

You're welcome.
