bacteria with generation time of 30mins. if culture grows for 20 generations, How many generations will have occured?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

isn't it 20 generations in 10 hours?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Bacteria Streptococcus Pne. generation of 30 mins. If you begin culture at 9am with single cell, How many cells will be present at noon? If the culture is allowed to grow for 20 generations prior to examination, how many generations will have occured?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thats the actual question from lab assignment.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got 1,048,576 im not sure but i know the cells double then you go by exponential

OpenStudy (anonymous):

9 = 1 9:30 = 2 10 = 4 10:30 = 8 11 = 16 11:30 = 32 12 = 64 cells

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So, 20 generations is 2^20

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If 20 generations have occurred, then 20 generations have occurred. I think there is something wrong with your wording of the question there.
