Plz help:)

OpenStudy (theviper):

If the difference of the squares of two numbers is 45, the square of the smaller number is 4 times the larger number, then the numbers are??

OpenStudy (theviper):

@campbell_st

OpenStudy (theviper):

give me the equations plz

OpenStudy (theviper):

@satellite73 I bow to thee

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmm \[x^2-y^2=45\] \[y^2=4x\]

OpenStudy (theviper):

k then

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and so \[x^2-4x=45\] \[(x-2)^2+45+4=49\] \[x-2=7\] \[x=9\]

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

ok... let x be the larger number and y the smaller number then you know \[x^2 - y^2 = 45\] and \[y^2 = 4x\] make the substitution so that you have an equation in y it will be a quadratic that needs to be solved

OpenStudy (theviper):

yes k! thanx @satellite73 :)

OpenStudy (theviper):

& @campbell_st

OpenStudy (theviper):

thanx all of u:)
