–|5| + |–5| = ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

|-5|=5 -|5|=-5

Parth (parthkohli):

What is |5|? Put a negative before it. What is |-5|? Add these two ^

Parth (parthkohli):

Remember that \(|\pm x| = x\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@zahabaha how did you get that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-5+5=0

OpenStudy (jiteshmeghwal9):

Case I- |a|=a Case II- |-a|=a -|5|-|-5 -5-5 -10.|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@zahabaha oh okay, so the positive 5 turns into -5?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@jiteshmeghwal9 that is not right. I tried that on the multiple coice and they said it was incorrect

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*choice

OpenStudy (radar):

Did you try the first solution provided by zahabaha 0 ?

OpenStudy (radar):

If not, why do you think it's wrong?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@radar I did not his answer was wrong, i said @jiteshmeghwal9 answer was wrong

OpenStudy (jiteshmeghwal9):

-|5|-|-5| now, by opening the brackets |5|=5 using (case I) & |-5|=5 (using case II). -5-5=-10 I m getting only -10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

everything in the booz turns positive so since u have a negative out of the boz u just put the 5 out the boz and the negative outside goes in fron then u have a box with a negative it turns to aa positive so -5+5=0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you all so much!

OpenStudy (jiteshmeghwal9):

but there is -|5|-|-5|@zahabaha So, u only have to find the absolute value of 5 & -5 .

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no read above theres an addition sign not a subtraction sign

OpenStudy (anonymous):

shekia try my answer

OpenStudy (jiteshmeghwal9):

oh! sorry i haven't see that

OpenStudy (radar):

The question has been closed. Hopefully it was understood.

OpenStudy (anonymous):
