well tides you need to learn a little about Gauss theorem ( it can be link with gravitational force in some sense - i mean all forces inversely proportional to the radius^2) well tidal force you need to learn the diverging matter ( assuming that a pipe is placed upwards from the ground and you have water coming our but you placed a barrier allowing it only to extend outwards at the horizontal axis) the tidal force will be diverging - thats why we need Gauss theorem ( solve it yourself i will not tell you how it is done because it is a very interesting subject that i think you should read up yourself)
