In 1957 the price of a McDonald’s hamburger was 43¢. In 2002, the price of a hamburger was 88¢. Assuming the price increased linearly, what was the price of a McDonald’s hamburger in 1971?

Try using the method I used before to change the English words into Math notation.

This is a situation where reading graphs and understanding proportion is super important and reveals interesting patterns. The proportion of money people spent on different things changes over time. It might be that back then -- people spent MORE (proportional to the money they made) on a hamburger, than they do today. Check out the 2nd graph (the one with the rectangles). It contains many many interesting facts about money and how it is spent now and how it was spent then. :) http://www.npr.org/blogs/money/2012/04/05/149997097/what-americans-buy
