use the elimination method to solve the system of equations. Write ur asnwer as an ordered pair 1) 3x+y=-1 5x-y=9

OpenStudy (matheducatormcg):

because these equations have the same variables, and the coefficient of the y from the first equation is opposite the coefficient of the y from the 2nd equation. Add the equations straight down and the y variable cancels out. you then can solve for x. after you have x, substitute the value into either of the original equations and find y.

OpenStudy (matheducatormcg):

coefficient is the number in front of the variable.

im confused.... so i do it like this? 3x+y=-1 5x-y=9 ------------- 8x+8?
