Here's the basics... Similarities: They both have an x squared term They both have an x term They both graph parabola (or "bowl" like) shapes ------------------------------------------------------- Differences: The first graph is a parabola that opens upward because it has a positive leading coefficient The second graph is a parabola that opens downwards because it has a negative leading coefficient The first graph doesn't have a constant term while the second one does (this shifts the graph in a vertical direction) The first graph has 2 x-intercepts but the second one doesn't have any x-intercepts.
