Determine binomials to represent the length and width of the rectangle, and then determine the dimensions of the rectangle if x=11 cm. Area is x^2-19x+90

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A binomial just means it has two terms. It's something like x+5 or 4x-20 anything like that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So for this problem, you just need two binomials that will multiply to get x^2-19x+90 Try factoring.

I tried, but I couldn't really get it :( I tried -10 and +9 but that didn't work

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You're clooose =) Keep trying.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OH um -15 and +6 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so (x-15)(x+6)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(x-15)(x+6) would FOIL to x^2 +6x -15x -90 = x^2 -9x -90 Notice that you end up with -90 instead of +90 since you did one positive and one negative. =( You were a lot closer with 9 and 10.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh frig :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OH -10 and - 9 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Try foiling it out on your own and see if that works.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes :)

Cool! Good job =)
